Indie Rock is a music genre that became increasingly popular from the 1980s. Originating from the UK it's highly diverse with sub-genres that include, indie pop, lo-fi and C86.

The term 'indie' originally referred to the low budget music being produced by independent recording studios. Without conventional mainstream restrictions, many indie rock artists were free to be as experimental as they wished when it came to making music.
